I remember that in Corfu, sitting in a bar overlooking the sea and run by an Italian, we had asked him,
“But when it rains, what do you do?”
He, smiling conspiratorially, had replied to us, “Well… the oldest thing in the world! 😏”
An advice that certainly remains sound, of course.
But we want to add something of our own to it.
So here are three alternative ideas for dealing with a rainy day, the first designed just for those on Skiathos.
If it is not pouring rain but just a few drops, we have an original idea for you.
Head to this spot on the island, just a short walk from the airport.
First, though, do one thing: Google the arrival and departure times of flights to/from Skiathos.
You will find that there are not many, but with a little luck you might be able to catch a couple.
Once you arrive at your destination, look for the yellow warning sign – that’s the signal that you’re in the right place.
Now wait… and get ready. Hold on to your hair and hat, because an Airbus loaded with tourists will pass over your head a few meters away! (Warning: they do not always land on this side; sometimes they prefer the other, where there is only sea.)
If you love photography, you may have just found your pastime for the whole day: not only airplanes pass by here, but also many curious characters and perfect scenery to capture.
If you have gotten to know us, you will know that our travels can never be without culinary stops.
One of our great loves, whenever we go back to Greece, is the Pita Gyros: a kind of fat flatbread, stuffed with onions, tzatziki sauce, chips, mixed meat, cucumbers, tomatoes … and many other ingredients.
We recommend you try it in the Nikos restaurant, accompanied by a liter of sangria (even two).
It’s cheap, has top-quality raw materials, and will fill you up until dinner – what more could you want?
And since you saved up for lunch, for dinner you deserve something special: we recommend Marmita Restaurant. Intimate, with attention to detail, perfect for enjoying more refined dishes with a creative twist, without missing the cozy atmosphere typical of the island.
Now that you’re full, you feel the need to stretch your legs a bit – just so you don’t blow all the gym hours you’ve accumulated over the past months. No need to go far: you’re already in the right place. Get lost in the alleys of Skiathos Town.
At first glance there seems to be only one main street, but just take one of the many side streets to discover a hidden world. Admire the sunset from the old harbor, snap a photo of a fuchsia bougainvillea, or immortalize a kitten being photographed like a star.
Rain sometimes has the virtue of slowing down the pace and giving you that moment of true lightness and quiet that you have been waiting for.
When the sun shines again, don’t miss our
